Frequently asked questions

How do I know if a device works with my smart home?

Check the product's supported ecosystems before you buy — the box and listing usually name Alexa, Google Home, Apple Home (HomeKit), SmartThings or Matter. Matter is the newest common language: a device that supports Matter should work across most ecosystems. When in doubt, buy the device the ecosystem's own maker sells, or one that explicitly lists Matter support.

Does Matter make everything work together?

Mostly, for the basics. A Matter device can be controlled by Alexa, Google, Apple Home and SmartThings for its core functions. But brand-specific extras — advanced camera AI, a lock's guest codes — often still need the maker's own app. Matter fixes on/off and status, not every premium feature.

Can I mix brands in one smart home?

Yes, as long as they share an ecosystem or speak Matter. The cleanest approach is to pick one ecosystem (Alexa, Google or Apple Home) and buy devices that support it, using Matter to bridge the occasional outlier. Running two ecosystems at once is possible but doubles the apps you manage.
